Trailblazing Updates
The numerous 50th Anniversary year updates continue into the future of this sports car. The GT-R NISMO model was extensively enhanced for the 2020 model year with new race-proven turbochargers, improved gearbox shift control, lighter components, reduced overall mass and upgrades to the brakes, wheels and tires. The result was a 2.5-second reduction in lap time around Nissan's development track, along with an improvement of the GT-R's inherent high-speed stability, even at speeds of up to 186 mph.
Aerodynamics. The GT-R is built to perform.
The Nissan GT-R is built to perform, with vents, scoops and a large spoiler that not only look good but affect aerodynamics. The spoiler is creating downforce, while the ridges on the air dam and vents on the back bumper are managing airflow towards the back of the vehicle. The vents seen behind the front fenders are cooling the brakes and creating more downforce, and the scoops on the hood and the signature grille are cooling the engine.
And Nissan didn't stop there - the underbody is virtually covered by composite panels, giving it a flat, aerodynamic surface. At the front of the car, the flat underbody accelerates the air and channels it over the brakes, which cools them down. At the rear, a carbon fiber diffuser takes that accelerated air and slows it down, creating a vacuum effect that helps the GT-R stick to the road, or the track.
The 2023 Nissan GT-R is also equipped with technology including a Bose Audio System with 11 speakers with subwoofers. The Nissan GT-R's ground-hugging aerodynamics plus powerful brakes allow it to carry speed much later into the turn. But the real key to its quickness is the All-Wheel Drive's ability to put the power down much sooner in a corner. In contrast, as they approach the limit of cornering grip, many powerful Rear-Wheel Drive cars require the driver to wait before applying power until the exit of the corner to avoid upsetting the handling of the car. So when you give it the spurs, the GT-R simply powers out of the corner.
