It’s that time of year: the weather’s getting warmer, the flowers are blooming, the kids are getting excited for summer vacation. That means you’ll be doing more driving.
That also means you’ll need to ensure your car, SUV, truck or minivan is also ready to handle those rides. That’s why the team at our Nissan service center in North Jersey has put together this list of important car maintenance tips to make you worry less about your vehicle this summer and have more fun!
1. Air Conditioning
We know you wanted the heat on this winter, especially with the cold morning we experienced. However, you want your in-vehicle air conditioning system to blow out cool air. That’s why we recommend getting it inspected to ensure that components like the compressor, condenser, motor, relays and cooling fans are working properly.
Like any other time of year, it’s important to always check your fluids especially your coolant to keep your car’s parts from overheating. You always have to change your car’s oil regularly and ensure you have enough wiper fluid since your windshield will become dirty with pollen, bird poop and more.
North Jersey is known for its cold and snowy winters, which is why some people use snow tires. We recommend that you remove your set of snow tires and substitute them for summer or all-season tires. If you don’t use snow tires, then you should check each tire’s air pressure since the cold weather can lower it.
4. Car Wash
Even though April showers will wash away the exterior of your car, we recommend getting a full car wash for the underbody of your car. The salt used on the roads can take a number on the parts of your vehicle you can’t see, so wash away the troubles to prevent damage.
5. Under the Hood
Parts like your car’s battery and brakes work harder in the winter, so giving them a check will help see future issues that come up. The same goes with the various belts and hoses that you might not think of, but can cause headaches if they need to be fixed or replaced.
